Hand exercises

August 31st, 2009

I use my hands a lot.  I guess I’m a hand person (if such a term exists).  So when I started getting some minor joint pains, I started worrying about the future.  I didn’t want this pain spreading to all my joints.  I decided to take things step by step.  I looked up some hand exercises I could start with.  Here’s a bit of what I found.

Start with the fingers.  Just bend the top joints of your fingers up and down like you’re waving “hi” to a baby.  Moving on from there, close your hand into a fist and then stretch them all the way out.  Basically you’re closing your fist and opening your fist.  Do this several times.  Don’t rush through it!

Next stretch your hand open, fingers apart.  Then put your fingers together, side by side, like you’re saying ‘hi’ with your fingers stuck together.

These are three simple stretches you can do anywhere, anytime.  The important thing is doing them correctly instead of just rushing through them.  Stretch out those muscles and your hands will start feeling better real quick.
